Transporting a pet can be an unsettling affair, and that’s hardly surprising: taken out of their home environment, pets are easily confused and this can quickly lead to distress. And, while this can never be avoided, it’s certainly something which can be minimalized.
One way to find a pet container is to search online – or hunt in the local pet shop – for a suitable container. And while that’s one way to do it, there’s no denying that that can be expensive. Another way to find a container for your pet is by making one yourself from recycled materials. Failing that, it’s sometimes possible to re-use an old container for the purpose of moving your birds or fish.
the kind of thing you often find in a skip may not work for its intended purpose, but it may work perfectly for a much simpler one
It may sound like I’m an expert on this kind of thing, but to be honest I wouldn’t have a clue unless it was for Stacy. A serious pet enthusiast with a boyfriend who works at the perfect place for getting hold of unwanted items – skip company Surrey is the name, I think – Stacy has passed on her words of wisdom to me. Follow these helpful hints and tips and who knows, you may be able to not only move your pet in style but also do so for a much more reasonable price than the local pet shop can give you.
1) Ring up skip and refuse companies and ask them if they have anything suitable lying around: this may sound a bit strange, but in fact you’ll find they’re well used to hearing from people who are looking for recycled things. Ask for things like barrels or cages, or glass tanks suitable for keeping fish in. I even heard one story about a traditional old red phone box being acquired, which just goes to show that you really can find anything if you’re persistent enough.
2) Most things, with a bit of work, can be converted into suitable pet storage solutions: the kind of thing you often find in a skip may not work for its intended purpose, but it may work perfectly for a much simpler one. Still, you may find yourself doing some serious work to knock that thing into shape. Look online for tutorials rather than try to bodge it yourself!
3) Super glue works a treat: super glue, as most people are now aware, was designed to glue people back together again. Suffice to say it works fantastically for glueing anything at all together, including your hands! Be careful and use sparsely. Failing that, use some special glue from the local builders'merchants and this will also do the trick.
