Potty training a puppy can sometimes be quite difficult. Certain breeds of dogs are harder to potty train than others. Before purchasing a dog it is important to find out how often they need to go outside to go potty. If you can not take them as often as they need you may need to install a doggy door or hire a dog walker.
When you first get a new dog you need to start potty training immediately. There are people who say to rub the dog’s nose in their accidents and some that say it is wrong to do so. The decision is up to you. You need to take the dog outside as soon as they are taking the stance to go to the bathroom. You need to take them out within ten minutes of them drinking water and thirty minutes of them eating. When the dog does it’s business outside like they are supposed to you need to make a big deal about it. Go over the top with your enthusiasm. Tell them how good they are and pet them a lot. Right before you go back into the house make sure to tell them how good they are and pet them again to reassure them they did the right thing.
When your puppy has accidents you need to tell them no. Take them straight outside and do the usual routine for going potty. If they go potty outside you need to congratulate them and pet them even if you are upset about their accident. Do not tell them they are bad or anything negative while they are outside. Make sure that they think of going potty outside as nothing but positive.
Using positive reinforcement as much as you can during potty training a puppy will help immensely. Soon your puppy will be going to the door and either scratching or whining to go outside. Be repetitive and consistent and you will be happy with the results. If you have followed all of these steps and still aren’t finding joy with training your puppy, seek help from someone qualified or look at vet jobs London to see if you can be pointed in the right direction of a trainer who can help out.
